The Chair of Theology

The Chair of Theology of the ROC School of Post-Graduate and Doctoral Studies teaches classical theological disciplines in the amount necessary for passing Candidate’s examinations in theology and prepares entrants for taking and passing an examination in theology and provides academic advice in writing Candidate’s and Doctor’s theses.

In its teaching the Chair works on the basis of the theological education given by higher theological education institutions of the Russian Orthodox Church, on one hand, and uses the didactic groundwork developed by foreign theological schools, both Orthodox and non-Orthodox, on the other.

Among the tasks of the Chair is to get adapted to the Bologna basic process in education and to integrate itself in the international theological education system. In this sense, the Chair of Theology is a pilot platform for testing new methods and approaches in teaching theology in accordance with the tasks set for the theological education by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.

The Chair’s staff participate in international theological research projects both inside and outside Russia involving doctoral candidates and post-graduate students.

The Chair has used innovative methods of teaching built on direct interaction with post-graduate students and inculcation of the skills for organized independent work.

The Chair is actively involved in the process of producing educational aids in the field of theological disciplines, renewed both in form and content.

The Chair is headed by Aleksey R. Fokin, Doctor of Philosophy.
